Windows to Omarchy, Closed to Open

I’ve been on Omarchy since the start of 2026, and I’ve never looked back. Maybe we’re peak hype right now, but seeing what people are building is just so inspirational. It is part of what I envisioned going over to Linux 10 years ago. Not that it wasn’t true then, it just took so incredibly much more effort to build and customize what you wanted.

I moved from Windows to Mac when I studied programming because the whole UX was just so much better. The dev environment was also much simpler on Unix, partly because of the huge amount of tutorials and open source projects that could run across all Unix machines.

I moved from Mac to Ubuntu because I got tired of Apple’s walled gardens and very limited customizability.

Then I spent years on Ubuntu, enjoying the freedom but also jealously drooling over some of the cool features that Mac had out of the box. And honestly, some of the not-so-cool features as well, like being able to use a Bluetooth headset without a problem.

I moved from Ubuntu to Omarchy to test out a set-up different from what I had tinkered on. The mix of well thought opinionated settings and combination of programs that work well together is at least a good start to get inspired by.

The worry of a new system and going to an Arch-based system was alleviated both from the components being tried together, but also with knowing that the agent could just help out whenever things broke.
